It is such a great pleasure to know Apsaras in Virginia. This dance academy has soared to greater heights ever since its inception in Richmond , VA.
Having learnt Bharatnatyam type of dance myself, I really appreciate all the dances they put forward for the audiences. The facial expressions on each student is near perfection. Most of their Mudras and stories are explained pre- dance for general audiences to enjoy but the way the Apsaras dance, it is easy to follow the story even if it wasn't explained.
The costumes and the stage decorations in all their events are well thought and admirable. The choice of music is always exhilarating and enjoyable. We have been very fortunate to witness many students have their Arangetrams here. I think the credit of success and powerful presence of Apsaras in Richmond goes to the invaluable teachings of the Apsara teachers under the guidance of Mrs. Uma Chetty. My personal experience when working with Apsaras during the cultural events is extremely pleasant. It always is rewarding. It reminds me that when great talents meet the right teachers, the results are awesome.
The dances that the teachers bring out for audiences to enjoy are truly remarkable. The choreography is excellent. The music accompanying the dances makes you think out of the box. The dances are enjoyed by both knowledgeable audience and general public that has no clue about Indian Classical Dances. I have seen their students perform on Bollywood numbers as well. I always believed that after learning the graceful art of Bharatnatyam, one can dance on any style of dance format very attractively. The dances presented by Apsara's students make my belief only firmer. I have always heard good comments after their performances at various cultural events. Their students are so well behaved and respectful. All these can not be achieved without loving support of parents and dedicated teachers. The teachers are very nurturing, patient and work very well with students of all ages .
I appreciate Apsara Arts Academy for its time, efforts and the dedication to bring the best of the best Bharatnatyam in our city. I wish them always the best for the coming years and hoping that they continue to contribute their talents to the community.
